    Just inherited a 98 Tracker

Due to a death in my wife's family, I now own a 98 Tracker with 69k miles. Being from the jeep world, I don't know much about them so figured I ask some questions here.

My father in law has expressed interest in using it around his farm. He plans to use it to pull a sprayer around the fields, he estimates the weight the the sprayer and liquid to be around 3000 lbs. The tracker has an auto trans. Will the Tracker stand up for that kind of work?

I might build it for some trail fun when it's not working on the farm.

Any thoughts or info is appreciated.

I generally use tractors, not trackers around the farm. They are designed for it. But I would think in low range it would drag it around fine.

I think this will be for spraying where the tractors have trouble getting in and out. He was just curious if the transmission would crumble with that load.

yea, but in 4 low at 10 mph. not saying it can or it cant but if I was a betting man, I would say it would do just fine.

I agree with the above if you use 4 low and putting around the fields it would probably pull it fine, though it is a heavy load for that vehicle. My biggest concern would be the tongue weight of the sprayer. For the comment about areas where the tractors have trouble getting to, I'm guessing he only has big tractors? A tractor with the same footprint of a Tracker would generally be more maneuverable and capable. For example a 60-ish HP John Deere can have about the same outside dimensions but is rated to tow 10,000 lbs.........though I understand the desire for the Tracker especially since it's free and it would have some advantages. For example it would usually be quicker and more comfortable to run to the back 40, plus you could run into town with it!

Just transform it to an off-road machine and you'll be glad you did.

Somebody else made the original post back in 2016......I was just replying to it. Still have the Blazer but mainly wheel a SxS now, so about the same size as a Tracker!
