    14-Bolt

Rear end is going out on my truck (making noise). I figured it might be cheaper to just replace the whole axle assembly than put new bearings etc. inside my existing axle. 1993 GMC 1 ton truck. single rear wheel. 3.73 gears.

What type of noise is it making? Under acceleration? coast? Does it change with speed? Sorry, I don't have any 14 bolt 3.73 stuff laying around. Your signature says the truck is 4x4, I have a ring and pinion set up for 4.10. Anyway I can get a bearing kit from napa for about 160-200 dollars. That's the cheapest I can find. If you can't find a whole axle, I can get a bearing kit and set it up for you. Ron

sounds like tire noise when you let off the throttle. I put the rear up on jack stands and had the wife take it up to about 50 mph and then let off the throttle. That's when it makes noise. its pretty loud. Haven't taken the cover off yet but im pretty sure I need new pinion and carrier bearings.

How long has it been making the noise? I'd pull the cover and look at the ring and pinion. If it's in good shape, I'd put a bearing kit in it. Let me know if you need help. Ron
